Huskers in the Headlines

Watson shows loyalty to NU – I respect Shawn Watson a lot for turning down the ‘Bama job and staying at Nebraska. I home he has a great deal of success for years to come as the Cornhuskers OC.

Pelini contract runs five years – It wouldn’t shock me if he ets a nice pay raise and an extension after a couple of years. One thing is for certain, it will certainly be earned and deserved if he does get it. I don’t see TO pulling a Steve Pederson and extending the contract of a coach who is not a proven winner.

Kiffin, Carroll paved way for Pelini – I can’t imagine getting an endorsement from someone like Pete Carroll. From what I have seen out of Bo as a DC Mr. Carroll knew what he was talking about.

Nebraska gets bargain with Pelini – It will take a couple of years before we will be able to tell if Nebraska got a bargain or not. From what we know at this point in time it certainly seems that is the case.

Pelini’s contract includes academic incentives – If the way the new semester started out is any indication he won’t have any trouble earning these bonuses.

Offer to Nebraska coach not made – Looks like Sabaan never offered the job to Watson. Who knows how these rumors get started but as the old saying goes, where there’s smoke… Here is another article from DatelineAlabama.com about Watson staying put. Finally, one more from the Lincoln Journal Star.

Compton update: Staying with Nebraska – Great news. I will feel much better about it after he signs on the dotted line.

Pelini’s contract officially released – As reported it is 1.1M for 5 years with some nice bonuses.

Sorry for the lack of updates today. I have been busy with a work “emergency”.

Huskers snare another Texas recruit - I love getting those Texas recruits.

OC/QB Coach Shawn Watson issues statement“I am excited about continuing in my role as the offensive coordinator at Nebraska . I deeply appreciate the opportunity that Coach Pelini and Coach Osborne have given me. My family and I enjoy being at Nebraska . This is a great place to do what I love and that is coaching football.

“Right now my focus is on helping finish up a strong recruiting class and looking ahead to spring football. We have a great group of kids in our program and I look forward to coaching the offense we have coming back for next season.” Cool, glad he is staying. I hate it when our coaches make a lateral move.

Huskers get prep linebacker from Texas – Another article on prep linebacker and Husker recruit Alonzo Whaley.

‘Bama looking at Watson – Watson said he hasn’t talked with Alabama and Bo Pelini hasn’t been contacted by them but who knows what is going on. I am sure Pelini would have no problem replacing him. Here is a post from a Crimson Tide blogger.
