VolleyballEven though this blog is predominantly about Cornhusker football it’s only fair to give some attention to other sports going on in Nebraska this year.

The women’s volleyball team was just ranked #7 in the CBS College Sports-AVCA preseason coaches poll yesterday. The team received one first place vote from the 60 coaches who participate. Nebraska isn’t the only Big 12 school represented: Texas came in at #3, Kansas State at #14 and Iowa State at #18.

Last year Nebraska posted a 30 - 2 record and reached the regional final.

Now that signing day has past it is probably going to be pretty slow going for a while in regards to whats happening with Cornhusker Football. As always you can expect to find all pertinent football news here daily.

Legend tossed first pitch - Article on Tom Osborne’s recruitment of Micah Kreikemeier.

One good show for Bo - Coach Pelini was the honorary wrestling coach for the NU/OU match. Pelini is so awesome his presence resulted in a 21-9 win for the Huskers. My only question, what is Coach Manning doing in that picture?

Bo on the go - This quote from Tom Osborne says a lot about our coaches, both football and basketball: “It isn’t anything I’ve asked them to do. They operate as they see fit.”

Bo Pelini

NU, Pelini have contract ready - Maybe I am naive but I was never really concerned if Pelini would sign a contract or not. He did say coaching the Nebraska Cornhuskers was his dream job afterall.

Osborne Says Pelini Shines In BCS Bowl - I agree with Osborne. I believe Pelini coaching in the National Championship and his ‘D’ doing well will have a positive impact on Nebraska Football.

Tigers wish Pelini a fond farewell - It is great getting a head coach that is so respected by his former head coach and players.

Holloway leaving NU volleyball team - This is pretty shocking. There has to be more to this then just wanting a life outside of volleyball. She isn’t even coming back to get her things. Odd.

Huskers’ Grixby hopes to extend football days - I don’t want to hate on a Cornhusker but there is a reason he wasn’t invited to an all-star game or the NFL combine. He may have a future in the CFL or AFL. When your major highlight of the game is how you jump on the huddle at the beginning of the game it doesn’t look good for a pro career.

Lucky ponders leaving top job early for NFL - As I said in a post the other day, I really think this would be a mistake. He should definitely play one more year and improve his stock in the NFL draft. In all honesty I will be totally shocked if he doesn’t leave for the NFL.

Iowa HS football star who committed to Huskers changes to Missouri - Nothing really surprises me anymore, just disappoints. February 6th will come fast and hopefully we will have a few GOOD surprises.

Huskers gain Texas o-line recruit - David Grant from Texas has committed to the Huskers. We lose one, we gain one. I am a little apprehensive about this kid because he was committed to Oklahoma State but they rescinded their offer then he committed to Iowa State. It should be an interesting ride to February 6th and signing day.

Bucs interested in Callahan - I have also heard that Kansas City and St. Louis are interested. He will probably be on coaching on a pro team next year.

Hoppen likes Huskers’ direction under Sadler - The program is definitely moving in the right direction. We will at least make a tournament this year.
