Joe Ganz dropped bombs on Kansas State this Saturday to get the Cornhusker’s their 7th win of the season. He threw for 270 yards and 2 TDs. He even ran for 95 yards and two more touchdowns on 11 carries. The kid is unstoppable sometimes.

Nebraska put up huge points in this game. Their total of 56 was spiked by 21 point second and fourth quarters. They were firing on all cylinders offensively with a solid running and passing attack. This was a very nice win as the team comes closer to the end of the year.

Next week’s matchup is at home against under .500 Colorado.

With Nebraska’s 45 to 35 win over Kansas this weekend the Huskers are officially eligible for a bowl game this year. With a 6-4 overall record, even their .500 record in-conference is going to be good enough to get them into a bowl game.

Ganz threw for over 300 yards against Kansas and Helu Jr. had over 100 yards on the ground as Nebraska continues to put forward a balanced offensive attack this year. Unfortunately, the defense gave up a ton of yards as well. That’s a weakness this team will need to address. Hopefully they come up with a solution sooner rather than later.

Next week it’s the Cornhuskers against the Kansas State Wildcats.

Nate Swift became the Huskers’ career leader in receptions after his first touchdown reception of the day at Memorial Stadium. Swift finished with 11 receptions for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Ganz threw for 336 yards and three touchdowns on 32 completions out of 46 attempts. So it was a good day for Nebraska passing.

It wasn’t too shabby on rushing either. Lucky had 83 yards and a TD on 16 carries and Ganz ran for 42 yards himself on 11 carries.

Next week it’s Oklahoma. Uh-oh.

Nebraska started to get back on track Saturday after beating Iowa State, 35 - 7, to stop the Huskers three game losing streak. Joe Ganz once again had a big time passing game by throwing for 328 yards and one TD. Ganz ran for one TD on the ground as well and Lucky scored two TDs on his own.

The Cornhuskers were looking at their first 0 - 3 start in the Big 12 in over 60 years if they hadn’t crushed Iowa State as bad as they did. So now Nebraska is 1 - 2 in the Big 12 and struggling to get back into the race for the conference championship.

Some, actually most I think, would argue that goal is already out of reach but you never know for sure in this volatile college football season. Loyal fans are keeping their fingers optimistically crossed for now.

With Joe Ganz’s interception in OT, the Huskers fell just short of beating Texas Tech. Give Ganz lots of credit though, he threw for 349 yards and two TDs. Nebraska had over 100 yards on the ground, split between Lucky and Helu.

So close but no cigar against the #7 team in the nation. Up next? At Iowa State to face the Cyclones and their 2-4 record.

Let’s be honest with ourselves. Did anyone really expect an outcome any different than what we save in Lincoln last Saturday? Missouri absolutely crushed the Cornhuskers with a final score of 52 - 17. I’m not sure it’s even worth rehashing the stats and player performances with you. I’ll just say that Chase Daniel is the real deal in the Heisman race, that much is probably for sure.

It was Missouri’s first win in Nebraska since 1978 and their 52 points were the most they’ve put up against the Huskers since 1943. Things just get tougher for Nebraska as next week Texas Tech comes into town with their #7 national ranking.

The Cornhuskers scored 13 points in the fourth to try and make it a close game but in the end it just wasn’t meant to be. Nebraska falls to 3-1 on the year and confirmed my fears in my previous post: that their previous competition was not a good judge of just how good this Huskers team really is.

Oh well, next week they move on to Missouri in a game against the current #4 team in the nation. I wouldn’t be holding my breath for anything but a two-game losing streak for Nebraska.

It’s hard to be upset over an undefeated record nearly a month into the college football season but a little perspective on the Cornhusker’s start is probably in order.

To say that Nebraska’s first three opponents were easy competition would be a pretty big understatement. There’s also some serious concern over the Husker’s running game, or lack thereof, as it would be. The offensive line needs to turn things around if Nebraska plans to get back to it’s traditional ground-and-pound offensive strategy.

Hopefully, with this past weekend off, the Cornhuskers had some time to work on things and get ready for this weekend’s big showdown against Virginia Tech on Saturday night.

Our boy Joe Ganz scored three different ways: a TD pass, a TD run and a TD reception. Genius. He’s only the third player in Nebraska history to complete such a feat in a game.

Marion Lucky contributed to the winning causes with 103 rushing yards and two touchdowns of his own. He was also the passer on Ganz’s touchdown reception.

Again, Nebraska whupped on a team they are supposed to beat. This was New Mexico State’s first game of the season thanks to Hurricane Gustav (hence their 0-1 record). The Aggies are now 1-19 all-time against BCS teams.

It was a close game against San Jose State over the weekend, but a fourth quarter kickoff return by Niles Paul pretty much broke the game open for Nebraska. The final was 35 - 12 after a twenty-one point outburst late in the game by the Cornhuskers.

Joe Ganz couldn’t quite match his performance from last week. He threw for 216 yards with no TDs and one interception. He’s going to need to do much better in the future when Nebraska begins playing their Big 12 rivals or it’s going to be a long, long season.

It’s early in the season so there’s probably no real reason to raise any flags of concern quite yet. But if Nebraska plays this poorly next week there’s going to be a lot of nervous fans in Lincoln.
